Check-Out Hunger 2006 was a big success at the supermarkets in New Jersey. We need your help to make the 2007 campaign even better. From late September through December (or January at some stores), shoppers can help people in need by selecting a donation slip and having the cashier add the amount to the bill. 100% of the contribution in our service area comes to the Community FoodBank of NJ. Our Store Volunteers make sure the campaign materials are set up and maintained at each checkout aisle in participating stores and express ongoing appreciation to store managers and cashiers to keep them motivated and informed. Store volunteers, who must be over 18, are needed to do the following:
- Pick up supplies at FoodBank and set up store(s) for start of the campaign.
- If store personnel set up the displays, volunteers need to check those store(s) at start of the campaign to be sure set up has been done properly.
- Visit store(s) at least once a week to make sure materials are properly displayed and to replenish donation slips as needed.
- Take down displays and collect all materials at end of campaign. Store set up takes about an hour; weekly maintenance visits and material removal take about a half hour per visit.
Special Events Volunteers (scouts, confirmation classes, student groups, etc.) stand outside stores on weekends to hand out donation slips and information on Check-Out Hunger and the FoodBank. This is a great way for kids to get involved. Volunteers are needed in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Somerset and Union Counties. For more information or to become a volunteer, please call Laura Sodano at 908/355-3663, ext. 235 or e-mail her at lsodano@njfoodbank.org. |
