The Community FoodBank of New Jersey/Southern Branch is proud to open Kathleen’s Closet: A Second Chance Shop at the Shore Mall in Egg Harbor Township. This thrift store features gently used clothing, furniture, jewelry, appliances, home decor and more. Proceeds benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s mission to fight hunger and poverty.
“The shop is a win, win for the community,” said Margie Barham, executive director of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey/Southern Branch. “The shop sells very nice merchandise at bargain prices while supporting the mission of the foodbank.”
The shop is aptly named in honor of FoodBank founder Kathleen DiChiara who started the FoodBank 35 years ago out of the trunk of her car. Her efforts gave so many a second chance. Today the Community FoodBank of New Jersey is one of the largest food banks in the country, last year distributing over 35 million pounds of food throughout 18 of the state’s 21 counties. Locally the FoodBank’s Southern Branch, located in Egg Harbor Township, covers Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties and distributed over 7.1 million pounds of food, an increase of over 23% from the previous year and a 60% increase overall since 2008.
Kathleen’s Closet: A Second Chance Shop is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., For more information, or to donate or volunteer, call 609-383-8843.
